“Anyone can achieve their fullest potential, who we are might be predetermined, but the path we follow is always of our own choosing. We should never allow our fears or the expectations of others to set the frontiers of our destiny. Your destiny can’t be changed but, it can be challenged. Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one.”
― Martin Heidegger
Every person is born with a particular kind of potential. And it is not easy to know what one’s potential is.
Although everyone has got a different potential, very few has got a special potential, for example talent; most have got little talent, and what they do have is enough to fit into the system
Potential is like a seed, it is very exact, like a seed of carrot, it is very exact in what it has in it. But the seed is not something that is yet shaped. In order for it to become a carrot; it needs to grow out of the potential and to be what it needs to be and even then its final shape depends on things, like the weather, nature of the ground and more. The same with human potential; even if they can actualize their potential, the potential is as yet an unshaped possibility, one has got some freedom to shape it in a particular way.
Potential is about who one could at base, there is a difference between one’s psychology and his potential. It is not the same thing. Psychology is in fact is more affected by societies’ norm then what comes from within.
Even one’s character is not necessarily his potential. Potential is the possibly of what one could become and it is mostly hidden.
The personality is not necessarily the deeper level. The deepest level is in what one could be. Fulfilling one’s potential is self- actualization also known as the top of the hierarchy of needs of Abraham Maslow.
But we tend to treat our self-actualization as shopping in the supermarket; but one could not buy oneself, for it is already made. He can only discover it. One can’t change oneself, one can only accept oneself. People say: I want to be like that. But he cannot be someone he wants to be, he can only be what he could become. And it will come to be by giving it a space.
The more the potential is rare and special the more one must be lost until he succeeds in finding it. And he will find it only if he listens inside.
When there is too much noise in one’s system one could not listen to what the inner voice says and then to what his true potential is telling him.
If one is not lost – than one could not be found.
To be an artist is to be lost; and if one can’t be lost, he can’t find something which is rare and special; his possibility to become what he could be.
